Geometric electrostatic particle-in-cell algorithm on unstructured meshes

We present a geometric Particle-in-Cell (PIC) algorithm on two-dimensional (2D) unstructured meshes for studying electrostatic perturbations in magnetized plasmas. In this method, ions are treated as fully kinetic particles, and electrons described by the adiabatic response. The PIC method is derived from discrete variational principle meshes. To preserve structure of system, requires that electric field interpolated using Whitney 1-forms, charge deposited 0-forms, computed exterior calculus. has been applied to study Ion Bernstein Wave (IBW) 2D simulated dispersion relations IBW rectangular region agree well with theoretical results. circular fixed boundary condition, spectrum eigenmode structures determined simulation. compare energy conservation property previous methods comparison shows new significantly improves property.
